XDDD Don't you just hate that? That happened to my mom when she was trying to find a Joke Book at the the bookstore.
Mom: Excuse Me...
Lady: Need help?
Mom: Yeah. I'm looking for a book...
Lady: What's the name?
Mom: ........I don't know......but it's a joke book with a lot of "Yo Mama!" jokes..... 030;

Epic.

It's not quite cogs, but they do have round flat metals ring things in one of the departments . . . plumbing maybe?? They look kind of like cogs and come in all sorts of sizes.

Yeah . . . when the people ask "Can I help you?" "No . . . I'm just . . . looking."

Go to antique stores or try the salvation army or a goodwill store. They have plenty of jewelry and clocks and watches to buy and take apart. Or look on etsy.com. The stuff at salvation army and goodwill is generally dirt cheap.

Traditionally, I find meycogs and gears at hobby and pawn shops, as well as cheap pocketwatches. Go to consignment stores for clocks too, you can salvage parts from faux antiques. When going to home depot, one asks for brass piping and fittings, copper piping and fittings, dark woods, nuts and screws. They're usually not that big on gears and cogs.

Thank you! Will do! They directed me to a bike shop : )

I did get a couple washers and bolts that will look good, and they have a good chain selection at low, low prices! :D

Yes, and they're pretty too.

Go for clocks with Victorian faces, and Roman Numerals, preferably with decorative hands, if they have gears, or brass bits, so much the better. Try looking for cheap Anniversary clocks, those are very useful for scrapping, but be very careful of the glass domes.
